Optimal diets or sustainable nutrition: what’s the difference?
Do you feel overwhelmed by all of the health hacks promising your best midlife?
Me too!
It can feel like a full time job trying to tease what’s sustainable out of the onslaught of optimization hacks we’re bombarded with daily:
A new menu plan guaranteed to get you eating more plants, that top 5 list of mobility exercises promising to keep you as nimble as an Olympic gymnast. Maybe a mindful meditation practice that will leave you stress free and sleeping like a baby in just 10 minutes a day?
When you’re trying to figure out your best plan for midlife nutrition, it’s tempting to be drawn in by big promises, only to have the relief of finally uncovering “the answer” be quickly replaced by the overwhelm of trying to do it all perfectly — and the stress of knowing you can’t keep up.
I have some tea to share with you:
The truth of it is, you haven't failed at anything.
OPTIMAL is a perfect world solution. It's what would be ideal if all the stars were aligned, all the time. It's usually what we see on social media.
SUSTAINABLE, on the other hand is the real world. The stuff you can reliably do on a regular basis, without upending your life, breaking the bank or feeling like you need to be perfect to make a difference.
So sure, maybe you did find the optimal approach, but it sure as shit isn’t sustainable!
Are you ready to get out of that loop?
What if, instead of feeling like you need to tear it all down and start over from scratch, you lean into a few sustainable tweaks that are easy to add to your midlife routine?
Shifting your focus from what’s optimal to what's sustainable might just be the tweak you need. Some people might call that lowering the bar, but I call it living in real life!
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Wherever you decide to start, limit the chatter first. Social media is a helpful place, but it can be overwhelming too. Bookmark your top 2-3 recipe resources (or better yet pull out your fav cookbooks) and consider putting the rest on the back burner for now.
Instead of being a blue print to follow, this is a framework to get you moving in a direction that feels sustainable. No big starts or demoralizing stops here.
